Intro

I never meant to become a software engineer. In fact, I was suppose to be a teacher, but here I am choosing to solve bugs each day instead of mediating the most current classroom drama. Aside from living and breathing Kubernetes & Operators you can find me reading or writing my own stories. I'm an avid and competitive life-long learner. I love seeing the people around me grow and I applaud a community that pushes towards growth and encourages intentionality. My experience as a software engineer is ever-growing and it is only upwards from here. I'm always open to new opportunities and experiences and would love to connect with you! Work

Bestie is an animal adoption site created with a ReactJS frontend, Python and SQLAlchemy backend and an AWS S3 library.

• Implemented AWS to allow local image uploads reducing server load time while allowing image scalability of image services.
• Designed use-interface that provides easier accessibility and more pleasant visuals by implementing efficient and complex designs via ReactJS and CSS3 implementing conditional rendering of features based on the type of user logged in.
• Ensured user security by implementing frontend and backend authentications through React Router and Flask forms, only allowing logged in users access to particular features depending upon what type of user they are.

SpudHub is an online farmer’s market application created with a ReactJS frontend and Javascript and PostgreSQL backend.

• Incorporated shopping cart state with localStorage to maintain and persist the user's shopping cart data even after the site refreshed and the user logged out.
• Constructed a dynamic frontend with ReactJS and CSS3 to provide users with more accessibility to their shopping cart through a sliding cart menu and dynamic buttons for simpler edit and delete functionality.
• Implemented modals for better access to product information and for a more responsive frontend.

SoulShot is a web application made for photographers to share the stories behind the photos they take.

• Designed a clean UI/UX using ReactJS to provide a better user experience through hover effect visuals and summaries, and easily accessible functioning and dynamic buttons.
• Incorporated Express on the backend to manage queries of image albums and used PostgreSQL to maintain and organize the database of images and albums.

About

Hello! My name is Manna Kong. I have experience in React, Redux, JavaScript, Python, SQLAlchemy, PostgreSQL, Flask, Docker, Heroku, Express, Sequelize, and AWS. I'm currently learning Kubernetes and working on an exciting new operator porject. I am based in Minnesota, but have plans to travel abroad soon once it's safe to do so. I graduated with my Bachelor of Science in English, with minors in Humanities and Writing from the University of Minnesota, Crookston. A fun fact about me is that I lived in South Korea as an English teacher and taught students from kindergarten to sixth grade. I loved each moment of it but still eventually decided teaching wasn't for me, hence the career change into tech.

In April 2021, I enrolled in App Academy, one of the top coding bootcamp in the US with an accpetance rate of less than 3%. After putting over 1,000 hours of work in, I can honestly say I loved each and every moment of this journey of becoming a software developer. I'm glad to be a representation of BIPOC in the tech indrustry and hope to continue to contribute to the tech community as an Asian-American woman. My goals after graduaton were to build meaningful projects, continously learn more tech, and to work in a team that challenges and encourages me to become better. I am happy to announce that I've joined an amazing team at Red Hat and can't be more thankful for this amazing opportunitiy to be a part of such a fantastic and bright team of software engineers. Seriously, I don't deserve them. I am continously learning, involved in an exciting new project, and am getting to know some amazing people. Can't wait for the adventures ahead!
